Stewart W. and Lamia M. Wilson TerpStart Endowed Scholarship in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Stewart Wayne Wilson received his Master of Science in 1995 and Bachelor of Science in 1991 in Electrical Engineering from the A. James Clark School of Engineering. His Masters work focused on electro-physics and he worked with Dr. Mario Dagenais. Since graduating from University of Maryland, Mr. Wilson has had a distinguished career as an engineer and entrepreneur in the Laser Optics field. He has brought more than 15 products to market, coauthored 24 technical publications and has obtained seven patents in optoelectronics, with several more pending. He is the co-recipient of a prestigious R& D 100 award and Senior Member Status of I.E.E.E. Mr. Wilson is an enrolled Tribal Member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. At the University of Maryland he cofounded the Native American Student Union which later became known as the Terrapin Society. Mr. Wilson is passionate about all Native American issues, especially education. Mr. Wilson and his wife, Lamia established an endowed TerpStart scholarship to support undergraduate students in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the A. James Clark School of Engineering. The TerpStart Scholarship Program is especially designed to support students who are Pell Grant eligible.
