The David W. Kornblatt Endowed Scholarship Fund honors the life and legacy of David Kornblatt, a 1950 graduate of the Robert H. Smith School of Business (then the College of Business.) The son of Russian immigrants, Mr. Kornblatt was a prominent Baltimore real estate developer and contributed greatly to the development and renewal of Baltimore through commercial and industrial real estate. His success was not only driven by his savvy business skills, but a deep understanding of the importance of personal relationships with his tenants, colleagues, and others in the community. As described by a colleague, Mr. Kornblatt “was old-school and did business with a handshake.”
The David W. Kornblatt Endowed Scholarship Fund supports students at the Robert H. Smith School of Business who have transferred from community college. Mr. Kornblatt understood that community colleges are vital partner institutions, and a critical stepping stone for many underserved students aspiring to attain a bachelor’s degree from the Smith School. In 2016, Mr. Kornblatt provided seed-funding for this fund. Mr. Kornblatt’s loving wife, Barbara, their children and grandchildren, honor their cherished husband, father, and grandfather by encouraging others who have been touched and inspired by Mr. Kornblatt’s extraordinary life and career to support the education that helped him to achieve such success.
