Amy Yuan '99, M.S '00 and Rui Gong
Amy Yuan received both her undergraduate and Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park. As a first-generation immigrant student from a low-income family, Amy deeply appreciated the scholarships and fellowships at UMD. She remembers fondly of her time here building the fundamental skills, under the guidance of world-class professors. As she spent most of her career at Microsoft building software to empower consumers and enterprises to achieve more, she always wanted to give back to support the next generation of engineering leaders. Amy is passionate about building diverse and inclusive team where everyone feels the sense of belonging.
Rui Gong received his undergraduate degree from the Tsinghua University and Master’s degree from the Boston University. Rui had multiple careers in software engineering, finance and education, and is actively involved in community services and volunteer organizations.
Amy and Rui have benefited from mentors throughout their careers. They would love to mentor the recipient of this scholarship, both during and beyond enrollment at UMD. Their desire is to help nurture the next generation of leaders from UMD.
