Black Engineers Society Legacy Endowment

This fund was established by Gregory B. Butler ’77 and Gregory G. Joyner ’78, two of the pioneering founders of the Black Engineering Society (BES) at the University of Maryland, in honor of BES’s 40th anniversary. With the support of their advisor, James Newton, they were able to build a strong foundation that has enabled BES to grow into a successful organization dedicated to supporting minority science and engineering students. The BES Legacy Endowment will ensure that the BES can achieve its three primary goals denoted as the “3Rs” – to recruit, retain, and release qualified minorities into the fields of science and engineering. Gifts made to this fund will academically and professionally develop and support BES students through numerous programs, services, and activities.
