The Janice L. Atwood Veterans Endowed Scholarship was established in 2017 in order to provide critical support to University of Maryland veteran students.
"I had a very gratifying career in the U.S. Army. When I separated from active duty and decided to continue my education at the University of Maryland, College Park, I found a new support system from fellow students and professors. I used the G.I. Bill® and was fortunate to be selected as a Graduate Assistant while studying for my Master’s degree. With savings and my Army Reserve pay I was able to attend school without having to take student loans. After meeting students at the Veterans Center, I realized how many veteran and serving students are challenged financially in obtaining a degree. I hope to ease that burden for some with this endowment."
