Louis Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science

In August 1977, with a generous donation from the Philip L. Graham Fund, the Louis Allen Memorial Scholarship Fund in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science was established in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) to provide annual support for outstanding undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science.

Louis Allen is renowned for being the first professional forecaster on Washington DC television. Allen passed away in May 1976 after a long life of impressive accomplishments, including serving in the Navy and running the Allen Weather Corp. He is remembered as a pioneer in forecasting and a man of many notable talents. Gifts to this fund honor Allen and support students interested in meteorology or weather forecasting, an ever-growing field of research that is crucial to the world now more than ever.
