Richard L. "Dick" Slye Maryland Promise Scholarship

Richard L. “Dick” Slye, Sr. (February 16, 1942 – April 25, 2021) affectionately known by those who loved him as “Poppy” was a native Washingtonian and beloved family man. While studying in college and throughout his life, Dick was passionate about business, accounting and finance. He had hoped to pursue a finance career, specifically as a stock broker. Dick was the first in his family to graduate from college. After graduating from the University of Tampa, he joined the family flower business as a third-generation florist, which he managed for 35 years.

The Richard L. “Dick” Slye Maryland Promise Scholarship Memorial, created by John B. (Jack) ’00 and Alisha C. Slye hopes to encourage students from the Washington, DC metro area to pursue their academic passions and interests in business through the Smith School of Business, enabling them to fully realize careers in business and finance.
