Charles and Dolores Higginbotham established the Robert Michael Higginbotham Memorial Award in October 1969 in memory of their late son, Robert Michael Higginbotham. Robert received a B.S. degree in mathematics from the University of Maryland in June 1967 and later died in Vietnam in May 1969. The Robert Michael Higginbotham Memorial Award provides an annual, need-based scholarship to an undergraduate junior majoring in mathematics in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences.
