Rudolph “Rudy” Lamone devoted decades of service to the University of Maryland and the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Rudy was a professor emeritus of management science, having joined the faculty in 1966, and the founder of the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship. Most notably, from 1973 to 1992, he served as the dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business and as the first chair of the program in entrepreneurship. In 1998, he was selected to receive the President's Medal at the University of Maryland. He was the co-founder of the National Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers and a founding member of the National Consortium for Life Science Entrepreneurship Programs.
In addition to his dedicated service, Rudy and his wife Linda, who earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland in 1970, have generously supported many areas of the University, and this commitment will expand upon their legacy to provide endowed support for future faculty in the Smith School of Business.
As they both were staunch leaders and advocates for Entrepreneurship, this professorship is intended to support a faculty member in the Robert H. Smith School of Business with the continuation of that same spirit, ideals and focus in their work.
