The Veronica Coates Scholarship Fund in the Department of African American Studies was established in February 2018 to honor the life and legacy of Mrs. Veronica Coates '68. Mrs. Coates passed in November of 2017 and it was her wish that a scholarship fund be set up and awarded to students majoring in African-American history at the University of Maryland. Should this fund reach the minimum endowment threshold, all contributions donated into this current-use scholarship account will then be converted and transferred into an endowed fund.
