Clint Waters Student Award in Marine, Estuarine, and Environmental Sciences Current-Use Fund

Clint Waters was an avid fisherman throughout his life. He served as president of the Dorchester County Chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishermen’s Association (MSSA), where he dedicated countless hours to newsletters, volunteered at special events, and advocated for MSSA college scholarships.

Waters was especially passionate about creating artificial oyster reef habitats, which provided an ecosystem for local fish and enhanced sports fishing opportunities. He was instrumental in starting Cook’s Point, a man-made oyster reef project near the mouth of the Choptank River. Waters’ favorite reef site, Cook’s Point, was renamed the Clint Waters Reef and is home to over 1500 reef balls today.

This student award, in memory of Clint Waters, was generously established by the Mid-Shore Fishing Club. The fund supports merit-based awards for graduate students in the Marine Estuarine Environmental Sciences (MEES) Graduate Program in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences.

With your support, the Clint Waters Student Award will provide MEES graduate students with rich opportunities to conduct research regionally focused on the health of the Chesapeake Bay.
