Funds provide support for the development of broad, multidisciplinary research initiatives that will address racial and ethnic health disparities. These include the Health Advocates In-Reach and Research (HAIR) campaign, a culturally tailored, community-based intervention, and “Shots at the Shop,” part of a broader Biden administration effort to quickly increase lagging COVID-19 vaccination rates in Black, Latino and other communities of color through community-based programs, which will train Black hairstylists and barbers across the country to dispel myths and disinformation about COVID-19. The Center is also working to publish and distribute a graphic novel that will feature barbers and stylists and their shops to combat misinformation about the pandemic.
