I want to learn more about making a gift to UMD

Currently only some University of Maryland funds are available through giving.umd.edu.  If you cannot find the fund you wish to support, you may still make your donation on our website.

When making your gift, under “Direct your gift” simply select “Other UMD Designation.” A blank field will appear, allowing you to write in the name of the fund you wish to support.

For additional assistance on how to direct your gift, our customer service representatives are available via email or phone, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST, Monday–Friday.

  • On giving.umd.edu, you can support a wide range of academic missions and priorities of the university. Philanthropic gifts can support things like technology enhancements and project partnerships, increase scholarships, strengthen curricula, fund community service, and enrich the libraries.

Gifts in support of the University of Maryland made via giving.umd.edu are accepted and managed by the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc., an affiliated 501(c)(3) organization authorized by the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. Contributions to the University of Maryland College Park Foundation are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Please see your tax advisor for details.

  • The Alumni Association is a dues-based membership organization that connects, cultivates and channels the power of alums to enrich their lives, advance the university and impact the greater good. Membership dues support student scholarships, alumni programming and much more to foster lifelong Terp pride. Alumni Association memberships are not managed by the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc., but by the Alumni Association’s own 501(c)(3).

  • The Terrapin Club ensures the Terps remain competitive in a constantly evolving intercollegiate athletics landscape while establishing an exceptional student-athlete experience. Gifts to the Terrapin Club Impact Fund support student-athlete scholarships and are tax-deductible minus any fair market value of benefits.

Endowed funds are meant to provide support in perpetuity. These funds are invested for the long term to provide a permanent source of financial support for the university. Annual distributions from investment earnings on the endowed fund are used to fulfill the stated purpose of the fund.

Unless otherwise marked as an endowed fund, most other gifts to Maryland are considered current-use gifts. A current-use annual gift is intended to be used in its entirety, either immediately or over a specific period of time.

Many employers sponsor programs where they will match charitable gifts made by their employees, retirees and board members. Visit our Give Today page to learn if your company has a matching gift policy.

Setting up a recurring gift is a great way to support the University of Maryland on an ongoing basis.

When making a gift, select "Set a Recurring Gift" and select the preferred frequency of your ongoing gift payments - monthly, quarterly or annually. Your first gift will be charged immediately, with subsequent gifts automatically charged on the same date depending on the selected payment frequency.

Ongoing gifts will be charged automatically and indefinitely unless one of the following occurs:

  • You make a request to stop your recurring gift.
  • Your payment method has expired.

To adjust your recurring gift or update your payment information, please visit the My Giving page.

To stop your recurring gift, please contact Megan Luckett at 301.405.5548.
