Launched in 2021, Arts for All is a campuswide initiative and one of Five Bold Actions announced by Dr. Darryll J. Pines during his investiture as President of UMD. It delivers on the promise of our commitment to the arts, fostering arts based curriculum, programming, and research, and offering increasingly more ways to engage with the arts. Arts for All is guided by three major goals:
Making the arts more accessible to and representative of our community
Placing the arts in dialogue with the sciences and technology
Leveraging the community-building and community-sustaining power of the arts in advancing social justice
Housed within the College of Arts and Humanities, the Arts for All initiative partners the arts with the sciences, technology, and other disciplines to develop new and reimagined curricular, research, and experiential offerings that nurture different ways of thinking to spark dialogue, understanding, problem-solving, and action. We envision a world where the arts and design work alongside the humanities and sciences to tackle our world’s grandest challenges, from climate change to racial injustice to global health and education disparities. A world where interdisciplinary teams are unafraid to embrace their creativity and that of others. A world where a university walks alongside its community, locally, nationally, and globally. We are building a world at the University of Maryland by forging new partnerships between the arts and other disciplines.
