Dr. Anat Kimchi Memorial Graduate Award in Criminal Justice

The Dr. Anat Kimchi Endowed Graduate Award in Criminal Justice was established in memory of Dr. Anat Kimchi, a beloved University of Maryland graduate student in Criminology and Criminal Justice who was tragically killed in a fatal stabbing incident in 2021. The endowment memorializes Anat’s passion for empirical research, social justice and effecting positive change in the justice system.

The Endowment was established to support outstanding criminology and criminal justice graduate students as they pursue their graduate degrees. It provides a yearly award for a data-driven, policy-relevant paper, or presentation at a professional or academic conference, related to racial inequality, recidivism, social justice, or the study of formal institutions of social control.

In addition, the endowment supports students with records of scholastic excellence who require financial assistance to achieve specific academic and professional goals. In particular, this fund provides students with resources to support travel to academic and policy conferences, to obtain requisite criminal justice data or to fund statistical and methodological training opportunities. The award will be given to students working on the above topics.
