John E. Wakefield is Director of Bands Emeritus at the University of Maryland. As Director of Bands and Chairman of the Wind and Percussion Division, Wakefield guided these programs, which have become large and visible areas of the UMD School of Music. He retired in July 2005, after 40 years as a member of the School of Music faculty. The John E. Wakefield Band Performance Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 to provide a tuition-based scholarship for a band student enrolled in the School of Music.
