Mark S. Harper Award for Excellence in Psychology

The Mark S. Harper Award for Excellence in Psychology honors the memory of Mark, who transferred to the University of Maryland in Fall, 1992. He was jointly studying psychology and social work, when during his senior year an earlier illness returned. He continued his studies at the pace that he could while receiving treatment and graduated in Spring, 1995. Sadly, however, he died from the illness soon thereafter.  The Harper family created this award for a student who best exemplifies Mark’s perseverance, intellectual curiosity, integrity, and dedication to others. The Mark S. Harper Award for Excellence in Psychology is given annually at the spring commencement to the graduating senior who best exemplifies the spirit of Mark.
