Psychology Research Empowerment Program (PREP) Fund

The Psychology Research Empowerment Fund supports two awards.

The Department of Psychology's Exceptional Contributions to Black Lives Award

This award will honor undergraduate students who demonstrate a commitment to advancing well-being with Black individuals and communities and/or are actively engaged in work targeted at reducing anti-Black racism.

To be eligible for this award, students must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate psychology major at the University of Maryland, College Park and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. In addition, students must demonstrate one or both of the following:

1. research or service that demonstrates a positive impact in Black communities

2. research, service, leadership or advocacy related to anti-Black racism.

The Outstanding PREP Student Award

The Psychology Research Empowerment Program seeks to better prepare undergraduates who are first in their families to attend college, from low-income backgrounds or members of groups that are underrepresented in psychology graduate programs for doctoral study in psychology. Students admitted into PREP will participate in a comprehensive four-year program which will begin with research participation in the first year, and culminate with assistance with graduate school applications during senior year. Additionally, students will receive intensive academic advising, faculty mentoring, vocational programming, and career development support throughout their time as undergraduate psychology majors.

The Outstanding PREP Award will recognize students in the PREP program who demonstrate outstanding contributions to research, academic achievement and service to their communities.
