Since its inception in 1975, the Black Engineers Society has flourished into a successful organization dedicated to helping and improving the community. In 1976, BES became a chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers or NSBE. The mission of BES can be stated as the “3 R’s”: To recruit, retain and release qualified minorities in the fields of computer science, engineering, mathematics, and physical sciences. This goal is accomplished through numerous programs, services and activities that help to academically and professionally develop minority science and engineering students.
