The University of Maryland, College Park, is grateful for the generous commitment of IonQ, to establish the IonQ Endowed Professorship in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS). In 2015, Distinguished University Professor Chris Monroe founded IonQ, a quantum computing hardware and software company headquartered in the Discovery District in College Park. This IonQ professorship will support a faculty member in either the Department of Physics or the Department of Computer Science who is focused on quantum computing research and who will play a major role in advancing quantum strategy on the College Park campus and in the state of Maryland.
