Parent and Family
Philanthropy

Your investment in UMD makes a difference in our students’ lives and helps create excellence for our Terp community.

The office of Parent and Family Philanthropy encourages you to explore the many ways you can engage with UMD and support our students with your annual gift, a multi-year or planned gift for scholarships and programs or support through membership in the Parents Philanthropy Board.

Parents Philanthropy Board

UMD Parents Philanthropy Board in Riggs Alumni Center October 2025

The Parents Philanthropy Board (PPB) offers parents and families of UMD undergraduates a unique opportunity to fully engage in the life of the university and play a vital role in enhancing the Terp student experience.

PPB members gain a deeper understanding of UMD through their advisory partnership with the Vice President for Student Affairs and interaction with university leadership and faculty, amazing students and other engaged families.

In addition, PPB members:

  • Participate with an annual gift of $5,000 or more to the Terp Family Fund
  • Welcome new UMD families and promote parent involvement and support
  • Host or attend regional or on-campus events
  • Enjoy recognition benefits of special programs and events, including reserved section Commencement seating
  • Attend two PPB meetings during Family Weekend (October) and Maryland Day (April)

Joining the PPB is an excellent way to be involved, informed and connected! Please contact Kyra Lyons, Director, Parent and Family Philanthropy at parentgiving@umd.edu or 301-405-1694.

PPB Chair Message

A message from the Chairs of the UMD Parents Philanthropy Board:

Parents and families are highly valued and important members of the University of Maryland community—without your involvement and engagement, there would be no community.

Through our involvement with the Parents Philanthropy Board (PPB), our family has experienced a multitude of informative and meaningful experiences with university leadership, faculty and staff, and other engaged parents like you. With all three of our children having attended or currently attending UMD, our Terrapin pride has grown exponentially and has deepened our appreciation for the tremendous opportunities UMD offers our children. We are grateful to be part of a community whose work impacts the student experience now and sets the course for future generations.

PPB members share in our enthusiasm and generously give their time, talent and resources to benefit all Terps—past, present and future. We deeply appreciate our current members and are excited to welcome new families as we lead the efforts of this esteemed parent group over the course of the next year.

Partner with us! Please accept our invitation to join the PPB and enrich your family's Terp experience.

Go Terps!

Supporting Maryland

The active engagement of parents and families is one of the great strengths of our Maryland community.

Terp Family Fund

All Terp parents and family members are encouraged to join in the UMD tradition of giving by making an annual gift to the Terp Family Fund, which provides critical funding for special projects, initiatives and programs benefitting all undergraduate students. The Terp Family Fund allows the Vice President for Student Affairs the flexibility to directly support new priorities and unexpected needs during the academic year.
