Judy Herreid established the Leon A. Herreid Current-Use Undergraduate Student Support Fund in Physics in loving memory of her late husband Leon A. Herreid. Leon’s long career at the Goddard Space Flight Center after his education at the University of Maryland in solid state physics had a long lasting impact on projects such as the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE). The Herreid family’s goal is to “create more Leons'' by aiding physics students in their pursuit of careers in the space sciences. This fund provides summer support for undergraduate students working on space science in the Department of Physics. Preference is for students working with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
