An anonymous former faculty member established the Experiential Learning Endowed Scholarship in Languages, Literatures and Cultures in June 2024. This fund provides merit-based scholarships for undergraduate language majors and minors in the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC) in the College of Arts and Humanities. Preference shall be given to students who are participating in SLLC programs including but not limited to, the Language House, LPP, or SLLC-sponsored Education Abroad programs.
The SLLC is the primary academic unit devoted to instruction and research in the world’s languages, literatures, cinema, and cultures. It is organized into multiple programs and centers and hosts the Language House, UMD’s oldest Living-Learning program. The SLLC is the home of the Persian Flagship Program, Project GO, Language Partner Program (LPP) and Summer Institutes in Arabic, Korean, and Persian. The SLLC offers study abroad programs in many countries. LPP pairs UMD campus international students with SLLC majors and minors in a curricular framework to provide structured opportunities to practice target languages.
