Suzanne Bianchi Endowed MPRC Student Research Support Fund

The Suzanne Bianchi Endowed MPRC Student Research Support Fund was established in memory of Suzanne Bianchi, founding director of the center.  This fund will provide students with scholarships and research support for travel, coursework materials, etc. which further support students.

Suzanne spent the early part of her career at the U.S. Census Bureau as a demographer.  She joined the Maryland faculty in 1994.  While at Maryland, she helped found the Maryland Population Research Center (MPRC) as part of the College of Behavioral & Social Sciences.  Besides helping to grow MPRC to its current status of 92 Faculty Associates, Suzanne chaired an unusually large number of department search committees, promotion and tenure committees, department reviews and she eventually chaired the department itself.  She left Maryland in 2009 to join the faculty at UCLA where she was Dorothy L. Meier Chair in Social Equities.  Suzanne was a pioneer researcher who changed the way our country views women and mothers in the workforce.  She passed away in 2013 at her home in California.  Suzanne was 61.
